Akhila Rao, Director, Kathak Rhythms is the premiere name in Kathak in Dallas-TX. Akhila comes from a performing arts lineage with her late father being a leading Kannada stage personality. Trained from early age under Guru Shri. Ganesh Hiralal in Mumbai and performing her Manch Pravesh in 1978, she has presented dance at leading venues in India. A recipient of the prestigious awards, Akhila Rao masterfully interprets a nuanced narrative with her beauty and grace in Kathak, exploring Kathak as a complete and traditional art form that blends the best of all Gharanas. Akhila Rao trains hundreds of students each year in the finer aspects of Kathak, after receiving her own teacher’s training under Guru Late Smt. Asha Joglekarin Mumbai. Her artistic work enables the large Indian diaspora and dance lovers in the United States to see the Kathak in its purity and entirety, with Abhinaya (Expression), Laykari (tempo-highlighting footwork) and Padhant (rhythm reciting) as highlights.
